Monthly Challenge for February

Theme: Engagement

Focus: Confidence and Calculated Traction

“Time waits for no one”, are words often used reflectively but they can be used to propel one’s inner activity. Time can be a limiting factor so daily, we should strive to forge forward with positive thinking while grabbing and building on traction attained. This approach can be integrated into a design label because it can shape one’s thinking, character, investments, desire to learn, sense of urgency, and outcome.

Make it personal:

With stated intentions, one should move towards the objective to build on those undertakings while noting achievement and any required modifications, especially in regards to time on task.

As an example, I enrolled in a CSA Writing for Military and Families’ course at Austin Peay State University. This eight-week course enables me to meet every Thursday evening to discuss my progress of writing and learn with others who are equally striving to achieve a book writing goal. The first meeting was empowering, to say the least. In class, ideas rushed through my mind as I typed to capture those structured thoughts.

Afterwards, I looked at three points of interest, as denoted below, for my book project that passionately imprints upon my heart. These points are:

1. To share some personal, yet, fact-based experiences on the effects of being exposed to famine and civil war. I lay out different perspectives and how such experiences can impact individuals and families.

2. To capture some concerns that individuals and entities may have regarding traumatic attachments that may accompany engagers, refugees and immigrants. Such side effects can go beyond the aforementioned.

.

3.  To provide insight on the importance of integrating professional practitioners and educators into organizations that are postured to work with, and stabilize, such conditions and populations.

Create a Win: Refining habits!

The environment can impact the ability to accomplish. Cut through any fog that lingers along the way. Enrolling in a distinct writing course enables me to be in a particular environment to hone my skills. This, I made a priority. Attending such a course also serves as part of my accountability matrix, thus, enabling me to make calculated written improvements each week.

I identified several areas to refine in the process of achieving my objectives, to include scheduling and resource management. I must set aside quality time each week to reflect, research, and write. I will schedule bi-monthly edits to my works, not only for grammar, but for clarity of thought. To this end, I will develop a quality draft that is accepted among a select group of college professionals. Of course, the disciple to be creative in thought, be open minded, and manage time in a most productive fashion will aid success. Already, doubt has starved!

The Benefits:

Confidence in my writing abilities and achievement are direct benefits to calculated engagement. By the end of this summer, my works will be packaged in a way to take others through this journey, and at the scholarly level. I will increase in personal development, learning capacities, communication, and have a refined understanding of cultural perspectives. Who knows, I may form a new relationship along this journey.

Additionally, the benefits will transfer into dialog with my accountability partner, Floyd Stokes, of the American Literacy Foundation as he works to facilitate reading at the elementary and middle school levels. We will serve as sounding boards to each other and build on the vigor to achieve.

This undertaking will enable me to serve in my community with renewed energy, scholarly influence and a positive impact, especially upon young men. I will unleash liveliness at new heights!
